Essay1-03b:Language Learning History

I'll tell you about my language learning history. I have learned some language since I was a child. My language learning history started in my childhood. Next, I learned Japanese and English at the secondary school. Now, I have learned English and French at KGU.

First, I learned my mother tongue, Japanese, in my childhood. I couldn’t write it and read any Japanese words in the nursery school because anyone didn't teach me. I learned how to write Japanese words at the elementary school for the first time.  When I learned how to write kanji, I tried to write it with a ruler, and my teacher warned me. It was embarrassing memory for me.

I learned Japanese in junior high school and high school. I learned modern and classic Japanese. The classic was more difficult than modern language because we don’t use classic Japanese. I thought the classic like a foreign language. However, I was interested in it in high school because my classic teacher’s class was fun. My classic teacher was Mr. Sanada. I liked the Tale of Genji. When I read it, I was frustrated. I think that it is characteristic to feel disappoint.
I think Hyakunin-Isshu is a good way to learn classic Japanese, but I have never played it. I want to try it sometime.

I also learned English in junior high school and high school. I learned grammar there, and I trained reading and listening in high school. I had to remember some sentences in the textbook in junior high school. It was hard for me. In high school, I had special activities to learn English. These were English drama and English summer camp. It was a good chance to speak English teachers who came from overseas.

I learned French at KGU last year. I thought French was more difficult than Japanese because Japanese doesn’t have grammatical gender. It was so difficult for me. However, French has words which are similar to English, so I could understand a little. Saying “bonjour” was the most difficult for me because pronunciation about “r” was not easy. It differs from English. I practiced it every class. I learned grammar at the French class. For example, I learned the past form, the comparative and so on. It was so difficult, but I studied hard to get a credit.

Now, I learn English at KGU. I have some classes to learn English. Reading, Writing, Speaking and listening class are good to make great skill. In the Reading class, we’re learning how to read a newspaper in English. It is interesting for me because I can learn new things in that class. Newspapers written in English have a lot of rules, for example, comma means “and.” If I didn’t take this class, I would not read English newspaper well. I also take the linguistics of English. In this class, I learned about the origin of English. I found that English has a long history and some language affect English.

My language learning history started in my childhood, and I learned Japanese and English at the elementary school, junior high school and high school. In this college, I learned French and English. Through my language learning history, I think that I should study language harder because I can’t speak English fluently even though I have studied English more than 10 years. I have to study honorific words in Japanese because we need it after we graduate from this college. I had learned about language until now, but I need more skill about language.

The first time, she caught the old-model flu and next time, she caught the new-model flu. However, she didn’t have a bad time because she took medicine and soon her fever had dropped. She likes having injections. She likes nurses better than doctors because nurses looks kind and in her imagination they are cute.

My favorite childhood memories

I have two my favorite childhood memories, so I want to tell you about that.

One of my favorite childhood memories is the summer festival at the kindergarten. It was smaller than local festival, but I enjoyed it. I ate curry rice which was made by my friend’s father. It was good and mild. I enjoyed playing ring game with my friends. I couldn’t get a gift, but my favorite teacher gave me more one chance, so I couldn’t plat it two tomes. Regrettably, I couldn’t get any gift. This summer festival had no fireworks, but I was satisfied it because I played it with my friends and my favorite teachers.

The other is keeping hamsters in my house. When I was six years old, my father started keeping two hamsters. We named “Pikkoro” and “Gonta”. They were male. They always fought and I always worried about it. However, I liked to watch their meal. They liked seeds of sunflower. The situation that they were eating seeds was so pretty. I still remember that. They don’t live now, but it is a good experience for me because I could learn important thinks about keeping animals.

I want to introduce about Stockholm. It is the capital of Sweden. Sweden is a part of Northern Europe. Please look at page 2. Stockholm has a symbol mark. I don’t know him. He seems to be unhappy something. About 8.2 hundred thousand people live in Stockholm. The area of this city is 209 square kilometers. Stockholm is the largest city of Northern Europe.

Stockholm is called “Venice of Northern Europe”. It means that the city is floating on the lake. Please look at page 4. I think that it is very beautiful and fantastic.

Do you know Royal Domain of Drottningholm? It is a world heritage. It is called “The Versailles Palace of Northern Europe”. It is large and gorgeous.

Stockholm has a special area. It is like a land. It has some museums and big park. Walking in the park with friends, Girlfriend or boyfriend is popular among young people. The name of the special area is dour garden. “Dour” means animal, so dour garden means zoo.

The dinner party of Nobel Prize is held city hall in Stockholm. It is a famous thing there. Negishi Eiichi who got a Nobel Prize in 2012 gave speech there. Many guests came to this party.

Do you Know “Kiki’s Delivery Service”? Please look at page 8. We say “Majono takku-bin” in Japan. It is set in Stockholm. Have you ever seen these pictures in that movie? The clock tower is famous. If you like Ghibli, I recommend going to Stockholm.

BR1-21: The Future of a Village

"The people of Essaouria now have to make......." (p. 19)

This book tells us about Essaouris’s economy and environment. It is in Morocco. Essaouri’s fisherman worried about the future of their work because it is difficult for them to survive at the fishing industry. Essaouri is very beautiful and old, so a lot of visitors go to there. It is a good chance for villagers to bring a good economy. However, there are some problems. Growing the economy too fast is not good, and increasing tourism is bad for local environment. The people of Essaoria have to choose which more important is, economy or environment. I think that they have to protect their beautiful village. If you lose their beautiful village, they must spend long time to revive. I want Morocco government to help Essauria’s economy.
This book has a lot of Essauria’s pictures. It is beautiful and simple, so you will enjoy it. If you interested in it, please try it.

BR1-20: Making a Thai Boxing Champion

"They are looking for the boxers who is in control of the fight." (p. 16)

Do you like boxing? This book tells us about Thai boxing. It looks a little like Western boxing that we know well, but it is actually different. You can use every part of your body in Thai boxing, for example, your hands, knees and elbows. According to this book, Thai boxing has a long history. It started two thousand years ago. Now, Thai boxing is one of famous sports, but it was a way to protect own country from invaders in the old days. When I read it, I was surprised because I think that fighting without some weapon is very dangerous.
Most of boys who want to be successful boxers in Thailand are from poorer village. Do you know why they want to be boxers? If they become successful boxers, they get a lot of money and higher status. However, I think that becoming a champion is too difficult, through this book. Boxers have to practice every day to be strong, but they need not only strong bodies but also strong minds. If they lose the game, they have to learn what wrong is, and they have to fight again. I think that Thai boxing is dangerous, but it is so cool. If you interested in it, please read it.
