The Autumn Equinox Day


Today is the Autumn Equinox Day. It is one of national holidays in Japan. People usually say that daytime and night are same length, but actually, daytime is longer than night. Do you know when the Autumn Equinox Day became the national holiday? It was established in 1948 to respect our ancestor. So, the Autumn Equinox Day is called the Autumn equinoctial week. People visit a grave with their family. The famers appreciate having a good crop of rice. I had been thought that the Autumn Equinox Day taught us that winter is coming. So, I was surprised when I knew the really mean of the Autumn Equinox Day. The Autumn Equinox Day is usually on September 23 almost year, but it is on September 22 this year. It is the first time in 116 years. The Autumn Equinox Day of this year is very cold and rain, so please take care.
